On this episode, we’ll wrap up our discussion of the Secret Formulas of the Wizard of Ads by sharing the greatest sales book ever written. It’s not written by Zig Ziglar, Tom Hopkins or Brian Tracy. In fact, you won’t even find this book in the business section on Amazon or at the local book store. That’s because it’s a children’s book that all of us have heard of. You’ll have to listen to find out the name of this book and why according to Roy Williams, it’s the most fabulous sales book ever written.

On this episode, I’m enjoying one of my favorite red ales – a Smithwick’s Irish Red Ale. Originally crafted by 14th-century Irish monks, this ruby red ale has long been celebrated for its frothy head and nice malt flavor. Has a taste of sweet malts, caramel, and roasted barley. Hops are not too strong, but very balanced.

Sean is having a Kilt Lifter Scottish Ale from Four Peaks Brewing Co. It’s an award-winning brew crafted in the tradition of the great ales of Scotland. It’s a full-bodied ale with a thin brown head and a taste of slightly sweet caramel malts.

Beverage of the Week

For this episode, we both bring some oatmeal to the table. Great minds do think alike! Oatmeal is a popular ingredient in stouts and porters & Sean is having a Convict Hill Oatmeal Stout from Independence Brewing Co. This one wins on artistic creativity alone. It’s deep brown, almost black with a rich dark tan head & an 8% ABV.

My oatmeal brew is a Chocolate Oatmeal Porter by Blue Pants Brewery in Madison, AL. It’s brewed with oat malt and two kinds of chocolate malt. Despite the chocolate though, it’s not as sweet as I expected. Overall a smooth porter with a 6% ABV and only an 18 on the IBU scale.

Braxton Brewing was started right out of a family garage and has grown into THE must have craft beer in the Midwest…. all from an entrepreneurial obsession and a passion for brewing good beer.

Jake is the CEO of Braxton Brewing and is fired up about reinventing the Taproom, by introducing new and unique ways to enhance the beer drinking experience. After studying entrepreneurship at Indiana University, he’s spent the past 4 years at ExactTarget and Salesforce.com developing Strategic Alliances with companies like Adobe, Microsoft, SAP, and Oracle in an effort to help brands better connect with their customers through digital channels.

Most people are told they need to have a social media “platform” or following before they can get a book publishing deal. However, our guest this week tells us that isn’t the case if you have the right pitch to grab a publisher’s interest. Carrie is the Chief Wonder Woman at Wonder: An Idea Studio, an ideation company offering creative training and guided brainstorms.

Prior to starting Wonder, Carrie was a full-time freelance writer and wrote for big name brands. For a writer, pitching can sometimes be a way of life, and it actually led to a book deal for her new book Me, Myself & Ideas: The Ultimate Guide to Brainstorming Solo that debuts this week.

While many hopeful authors are told they need to have a platform before being published, Carrie and her co-author instead built a pitch around being brainstorm experts and how they would market the book in creative ways that would play up their brainstorming prowess.

Their pitch landed them with a major publisher and now have a book coming out this week. On this episode, Carrie will be sharing her story and some great takeaway tips for having a unique angle to pitch like a pro.

Beer of the Week

Our beer for this week is a very rich, sweet Somoa This Imperial Stout from Southern Tier Brewing Company. This 10% ABV dark dessert beer offers notes of chocolate, coconut, and caramel. It finishes with a creamy, coconut, doughy, chocolate cookie taste.

A great beer, but because of its sweetness, you wouldn’t want more than one at a time.
